About me
My name is Andrew and I have been singing and playing guitar for 40 years (although now that figure has reached 40, I might stop talking about it, as I do not want to feel old).
I've been married to Karen for 34 years and we have 3 grown-up children, plus 2 in heaven. Karen has sung and played piano on several of my recordings. Together we have sung and led musical worship in England, Wales, Ireland, India, Russia and Switzerland.
My instrument of choice is Acoustic Guitar. I also play Classical Guitar, Bass Guitar and Cajon. For Acoustics, I only play Martin Guitars and only use Martin Extra-Light strings. - Yes, I'm just a little bit obsessive about that point. :)
My Story
When I was 18 I became a Christian. Within a few months, I had joined the music group at my local church and began learning to play guitar. A few months later I started to sing. Shortly afterwards I began to lead musical worship at church and developed a passion for songwriting, worship and intercession. Although songwriting has been a passion, I never produced any commercial music until 2022 when I released the song ‘’Tears For The Lost.’’ In Sept 2024 I then released my debut album entitled ''Audience Of One.''
More recently, 2026 saw the release of an EP entitled ''Heal Our Land, Messiah" - based on prayers for the Middle East. I also signed a publishing deal with Malcolm Down Ltd and released my first book - ''From Behind the Microphone'' - my biography which celebrates 40 years in the Christian music ministry.
2026 also saw the birth of this podcast series, and future plans include another book entitled ''Let's talk: Worship'' which will complement this podcast.
Why the podcast?
I am passionate about the subject - and all that it entails, both in music and in lifestyle. I never want to arrive and think I know it all. Rather, I always hope to listen, to learn and to continue to grow as worshipper. I love to talk and share ideas about songs, bands and church music, but I also like to explore what it means to live a life that is pleasing to God, as an act of worship (Romans 12v1).
Worship is a bit like reading the bible: there is always something new that you had never discovered before - until today. To love God is to worship God. To worship God is to know who you are worshipping, what pleases him and what he requires of you. True worshippers will conciously and deliberately want to love the Father in Spirit and in Truth, loving him the way he first loved us, with all their heart, soul, mind and strength. They will seek him not just in front of others but will draw close to him in the secret place, closing the doors behind them and spending time alone with an 'audience of One.' They express worship in many different ways and between them offer millions of different prayers, praises and petetions. They are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks.
Worshippers of God are people who don't worship the world or anything in it. They are in the world, but not of it. They don't live for the next great church experience at an event or look forward to the next emotional high during their favourite song. It is deeper than that. True worshippers pour out their hearts and souls to God in love, praise and gratitude, through good and bad, seasons of plenty and seasons of lack, they are consistent during all the seasons of the soul. They consider themselves blessed regardless of circumstance, whether they are enjoying provision or are in great need. They are content to go without and to live minimally if they have to.
Money does not own them. Food, drink and material possessions do not control them. They serve none of these things, in fact they give and receive freely of all that they have, just as Christ does with us. They do not chase after fruitless vanities or build houses of cards. What they invest in can never be taken from them.
Psalm 19:14 - "Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in your eyes, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.''
